DURiNG 1954 a number of valuable art gifts were added to the Dartmouth College Collection in Carpenter Hall. Among these gifts were:
From Mrs. Hersey Egginton, in memory of her son, Everett Egginton '21: 500 prints and forty drawings, including some by Ault, DeWint, McBey, Morland and Thayer.
From the artist, Miss Use Bischoff: an oil painting, Portrait of a Negress"; and a drawing, "Portrait of Herbert Faulkner West."
From Clarence Buttenwieser '19; a Flemish tapestry; from Stuart Eldredge '34: a gouache, "Pre-Prandial," by Joseph Green Butler 3rd '24; from William and Evelyn Jaffe: two oil paintings, "Marine à Honfleur" by Édouard Vuillard and "Barques des Pecheurs," by Alfred Marquet.
From Robert Jackson '00, his daughter Sarah Jackson Doyle and her husband M. Dorland Doyle: a valuable collection of art books; from Dr. Samuel J. Scadron, in memory of his son, Harvey Matthew Scadron '46: a lithograph, "Eiffel Tower," by Marc Chagall; from the Herbert Frank Schuchmann '14 Bequest: six etchings, including one by Van Dyck and one by Jean-Francois Millet.
From the artist, Marcel Sessler: an oil painting, Studio Stove"; from the artist, Kenneth Shopen: an ink drawing, "Bucolic Felicity."
From Vernon F. West '09: an oil painting, "London Tower and Bridge," by Joseph Mallord William Turner.
The gifts to Carpenter's art collection by Miss Use Bischoff and Vernon F. West '09 were made through the Friends of the Library.
