April 1955

OF the three dormitory experiments proposed last year by the Commission on Campus Life and Its Control, and put into effect in the fall, by far the most significant and most interesting was the idea of having a resident faculty adviser. Cutter Hall, the new dormitory acquired from Clark School, was chosen for the experiment and Joseph F. Marsh '47, Instructor in Economics, was appointed Faculty Resident. As the first year of the experiment nears an end, Mr. Marsh reviews some of the activities at Cutter Hall and presents his own personal evaluation of the trial run. His article entitled An Experiment in Dormitory Living begins on Page 21. A dozen photographs by Adrian Bouchard illustrate the story.

Three shorter articles this month deal with such diverse subjects as the 1955 Hanover Holiday program (Page 26), the Wah Hoo Wah Turkey Farm, Inc., which has been set up as a non-profit corporation to benefit Dartmouth College (Page 29), and the remarkable record of Dartmouth debating teams under Coach Herbert L. James (Page 30).

The Cover

For this month's cover picture Adrian Bouchard visited Art 29, a course in Basic Design taught by Richard E. Wagner. The student shown, with the product of his own freewheeling imagination, is Joel Ash '56 of forest Hills, N. Y.
