One of the highlights of the annual dinner of class and club officers in Hanover, May 7, was the award of Dartmouth Club Secretary for 1955 to Forrest C. Billings '28 of Hartford, Conn. The citation which accompanied the honor follows:
Forrest C. Billings '28, Secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Hartford, has helped to raise the sights for club work everywhere. The record of the Hartford Club was described in the April issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and so, this evening we will cite just one example of the Hartford renaissance.
In 1947 the five active members of the Dartmouth Club of Hartford had to assess themselves $5 each in order to send out a club mailing. Now, eight years later, there are 300 active members - the highest percentage of paid members on any Dartmouth club mailing list.
On all Dartmouth fronts Hartford is doing outstanding work and now is especially concerned with an extensive enrollment program. Bulldog Beware!
I We know that there was more muscle than magic in Hartford's success. There was endless organization and planning, persistence and enthusiasm, on the part of the club's splendid team of workers. Cal Billings has been a key man in the club's development from his post as secretary. Now our champion will devote full Dartmouth time to enrollment.
Your work in Connecticut is justly famed, Cal. It is now my pleasure to present you with this Alumni Club Award of the Year.
