Business Reorganization
October 1956

A REORGANIZATION of the business and plant operations of the College was announced last month by John F. Meek '33, Vice President and Treasurer. Under the reorganization, effective September 15, the former Department of Plant and Operations has been abolished. Richard W. Olmsted '32, who was Business Manager for Plant and Operations, has been named Business Manager of the College. In this new position, under Mr. Meek, he will be responsible for directing physical plant operations and new construction and for . managing all College activities of a business nature, including student, faculty and staff housing, the Dartmouth Dining Association, the Hanover Country Club, Dartmouth Skiway and other ski operations, and auxiliary enterprises.

Under the Office of the Business Manager there is now a separate Department of Buildings and Grounds (a revival of a department dropped in 1953) headed by James D. Wilson as Superintendent, and with William I. Crooker as Manager of Housing and Bertram G. Sargent as Chief Engineer of the Heating Plant. John F. Rhilinger continues as Purchasing Agent in the Office of the Business Manager.

The Department of Buildings and Grounds and the Purchasing Agent's office are located in the former dairy plant building east of the power plant. This building now carries the name of Alexander A. McKenzie '91, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds from 1898 to 1904, who is believed to have been the first officer of that sort at any college in the country.
