The first and only American to serve on the board of directors of the Suez Canal Company, S. Pinckney Tuck '13 is in the thick of things during the present crisis. Although not an official representative of the United States, his is an important voice in negotiations about this crucial transportation problem, and his experience in diplomacy an invaluable asset.

A career diplomat, Mr. Tuck represented this country for over 35 years, serving in such cities as Cairo, Budapest, Constantinople, Paris and Buenos Aires. In 1947 Mr. Tuck was named the first American Ambassador to Egypt, after serving as American Minister there from 1944. He resigned as Ambassador in 1948.

Now living in Paris, Mr. Tuck is the founder of a Dartmouth scholarship which provides up to $800 annually to qualified sons of career officers in the United States Foreign Service.
