While the Democrats and Republicans were busy wasting all of their energies on the preliminary skirmishes in the hinterlands, the Anti-Reform candidates were swept into power at the free and open Dartmouth Alumni Association of Wisconsin annual meeting held at Wulff's Island on May 18. Astonishing nobody but the candidates, everybody nominated was elected. Those nominated were: President, Bob Ott '43; Vice President, Geff Maclay '45; Secretary, John Zillmer '48; and Treasurer, Bud Bray '50. Elected without the usual political promises and deals, the new officers will be able to attend to the serious business of carrying on and forward the very fine work done in the last year and years by the retiring officers: President, Don Gates 42; Vice President, Bob Ott '43: Secretary, Bill Trump '46; and Treasurer, John Lotter '50.
After the election and other amenities of an annual meeting, Dean of the Faculty Arthur E. Jensen was finally permitted to have the floor. Dean Jensen filled us in on some of the latest Hanover happenings and let us catch a glimpse of a very few of the fundamental problems that Dartmouth must face now with regard to its future. Dean Jensen's excellent talk was enjoyed and appreciated by everyone present.
Due to some extremely far-sighted planning, our annual baseball outing was held on Friday night, June 8. In the midst of their early season slump, the Braves played the Giants in what was probably the worst game they have played all year. However, the good pregame dinner at the Boulevard Inn, the fine company, and the cool and refreshing beer served at County Stadium made it all very worthwhile an enjoyable.
Bob Ott and his mother once again most generously permitted us to hold our annual picnic (August 18) at their lovely home on Pine Lake, just west of Milwaukee. Pounds and pounds of succulent roast beef were charcoal broiled and quickly devoured. Due to the failing grades some of our brethren received in Tanzi 76, a free beer shampoo was provided for all as the first keg was supposed to be being tapped. The weather was damp, but we had a tent. Some of the heartier souls (i.e., fools) went water skiing. We even had a combo to provide music for dancing and singing. Many thanks should go to the new social committee: RobinsonBosworth '37, chairman; Casey McKibben '51; Bob Meanix '52; and, Bill Randall '52.
