MEETING separately for the first time, and not with the class officers in the spring, some forty Dartmouth alumni club presidents and secretaries, together with 25 alumni enrollment leaders from the New England area, gathered at the College for a three-day conference on September 27, 28 and 29. The meetings were actually held at the Lake Morey Inn, in nearby Fairlee, Vermont, where accommodations for the alumni and their wives were more adequately available over the New Hampshire game weekend, with which the meetings coincided.
The emphasis of the conference was on Dartmouth's national enrollment program, in which the clubs play a decidedly im- portant part. Two general sessions on Thursday evening and Friday morning were given over to this central topic. Friday afternoon the club presidents and secretaries met to discuss their special activities while the enrollment representa- tives held a separate meeting to discuss the details of their work in New England. Other events during the three days included an opening reception and dinner for alumni and their wives, a banquet for everyone on Friday evening, and a buffet luncheon on the Hanover Inn lawn, prior to the football game, on Saturday.
Following the opening dinner at the Lake Morey Inn, the wives met separately to hear Dean Arthur R. Upgren of Tuck School speak on "Economics for Housewives," while alumni and College officers gathered for the first joint session, presided over by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College. Speakers were Edward T. Chamberlain '36, director of Robert A. Rolfe '31, director of athletics; and President Dickey, who discussed some' aspects of enrollment work and also the current deliberations of the Trustees 1969 Planning Committee.
The second joint meeting, held the following morning, was presided over by Mr. Chamberlain. Speakers were Mr. Hayward, who reviewed the work to date of the Trustees Planning Committee on Alumni Relations; Louis V. Wilcox '23 of the Alumni Council, chairman of the National Enrollment Committee; Charles B. Keenen '52 of the Admissions Office, secretary of the National Enrollment Committee; J. Michael McGean '49, assistant to the Secretary of the College, who spoke on "Enrollment and the Clubs"; and Prof. Arthur E. Jensen, Dean of the Faculty, whose topic was "The Two-Way Importance of Education and Enrollment."
Harry C. Bush '44, former president of the Dartmouth Club of Hartford, Conn., and now a member of the Committee on Alumni Relations, presided at the afternoon meeting of club officers, and also served as chairman of a panel discussion in which other participants were Willis S. Fitch '17, president of the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D. C.; Charles E. Rauch '30, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of New Haven; and Mr. McGean. At the concurrent session of enrollment workers the presiding officer was Mr. Wilcox, who also acted as chairman of a roundtable discussion.

The principal speaker was James Dow McCallum, Professor of English, whose topic was "Poetry and Tradition." The new movie, "Dartmouth Visited," was the concluding event.

C., and the annual Club Secretary of the Year award to Raymond Welbourn '41 of Nashua, N. H.
