Mr. Zimmerman has long been recognized as one of the top insurance men in the country and has received many honors in this field. Following graduation from Tuck School in 1924, he was executive secretary of the New York Life Underwriters Association. He joined Connecticut Mutual in 1926, becoming within two years the head of a new district agency in Bridgeport, Conn. During the next eleven years he demonstrated remarkable managerial ability, first as general agent in Newark, N.J., then in Chicago, where the agency in five years rose from 33rd to second place in the company's ranks.

In 1939, Mr. Zimmerman, who had been active in the Association for several years, was elected president of the National Association of Life Underwriters, the youngest man ever to hold this office. In 1940 he was cited as one of America's outstanding young men by the U. S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, and in 1942 he was chosen by The Insurance Field as "Insurance Man of the Year."

Following war service in the Navy, Mr. Zimmerman joined the Life Insurance Agency Management Association as director of institutional relations, becoming managing director of the Association in May 1951. Under his leadership, this organization became a vital force in coordinating efforts of many institutional groups in the life insurance business. In 1951 Mr. Zimmerman was awarded the John Newton Russell Memorial Award by the National Association of Life Underwriters for "outstanding and meritorious service to the institution of life insurance."

Active in alumni affairs since graduation, Mr. Zimmerman is a former Alumni Council member and served as chairman of the Alumni Fund in 1950. A frequent lecturer at Tuck School and at other colleges and universities, he was named one of the first members of Tuck School's Board of Overseers. He is a trustee of Hillyer College, Hartford.
