Edward B. Redman '06 was honored as the Dartmouth Class Secretary of 1956 at the annual dinner of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover on May 5. Before presenting him with a Ticknor Print of the early College, Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, read the following citation:
Edward B. Redman '06, you are one who has mastered both the general and the particular. As long-time manager of the Dartmouth and Princeton Clubs in New York City you have served Dartmouth men in general - while managing to hold the Tiger by the tail. And in particular, you have done an outstanding job as secretary of your own fine class of 1906.
Let's think for a moment about what your presence has meant under the Green Flag at 37 East 39th Street. For many of us, you are the man with the warm hospitality and the good food. You are the old friend who has, year by year, somehow moved more and more of Hanover into New York City. It is the Dartmouth fellowship we are thinking of: that is what you have nurtured for us to enjoy. In any event, Ned, we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to relate here how much you have done for Dartmouth men of all classes. And there is one class in which you have a very special interest.
Whatever the ideal class secretary is, Ned, you are it. Your warmth of understanding, your consideration, your leadership in all class affairs and the effectiveness of your column in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, have for many years meant much to your class and your college. And now, on the eve of your 50th class reunion, we are proud to name you Dartmouth Class Secretary of the Year.
