A COLLECTION of correspondence from Edward Tuck, 1862, Dartmouth's greatest benefactor, has been presented to the College by George E. Warren, New York investment broker who was his friend and business associate.
The letters were written from France during the last decade of Mr. Tuck's life, 1929 to 1938. They reflect his lively opinions and provide commentary on a critical period of political and economic history, in this country and abroad, by a noted financier and philanthropist. He was, for example, a vigorous critic of national trade barriers.
Mr. Tuck lived in France for more than fifty years and made many gifts to the French people, including hospitals, a notable art collection, and his estate, Chateau Vert Mont. His gifts to Dartmouth now amount to more than four million dollars. The Tuck School was given in memory of his father, Amos Tuck of the Class of 1835.
