THE Brundage Lodge at the Dartmouth Skiway is nearing completion and will soon be ready for use during the late-winter and spring skiing seasons. It is the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Brundage '16 of Dover, N. J., in memory of their son, Peter Brundage '45, who was killed at Okinawa in World War II.
The lodge, near the foot of the Skiway's 3775-foOt Pomalift, has been designed by W. Brooke Fleck, Hanover architect. At its south end it has a large observation lounge with ceiling-high windows facing south and west and commanding a view of the lower runs of all trails and of the lift area. In the north end there is a kitchen and snack bar a few steps below the observation lounge, giving a split-level effect. A full story below, with ground-level entrances, are a first-aid room, waxing room, toilets, ski patrol room, and an office.
Peter Brundage, in whose memory the lodge has been given by his parents, was a leader in the Dartmouth Outing Club during his undergraduate years, serving as director of the Winter Sports Council and as the head of instruction in Cabin and Trail. He was a 2nd lieutenant in the Marines and was killed May 3, 1945, shortly after his 21st birthday, while heroically leading his platoon in the heaviest fighting on Okinawa.
