Our usual yearly program calls for a monthly dinner meeting in Baltimore, but this year started this past September with a luncheon to send off the new freshmen to Hanover. Club members and many undergraduates combined to help the new students gain an understanding of Dartmouth spirit and to learn what to expect when they arrived at school.
The new slate of officers officiating at ourfirst meeting consisted of: Dave Garratt '18,President, Howard Van Riper '38, Vice President, Ernie Beattie '49, Treasurer, and MattFenton '49, Secretary.
"The mountain went to Mohammed," andthe club met in November in Carvel Hall,Annapolis, Md., because many Dartmouthmen teach at The Naval Academy and live in the area. Earl J. Thomson '20, track coach at the Academy, and Earl W. Thompson '15, M.A., head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, arranged the program. Speaker Captain Eliot Laughlin, U.S.N., Naval Academy director of athletics, gave us an interesting' insight into the problems of athletics at the Academy.
December brought our annual Christmas Cocktail Party which was attended by a large number of Alumni, wives and undergraduates.
This spring, we have two major events, in addition to our regular meetings. In March President Dickey will be our guest at a dinner and in April the Glee Club will visit us after a break of several years. Both events mean a great deal of work for our club members.
We have a change in officers to report, in January, our treasurer, Ernie Beattie '49, was transferred to Philadelphia, and Bob Moyer '43, has taken over as the new treasurer. We were sorry to see Ernie go, good workers are always valuable. Maybe our friends in Philadelphia can make use of his talents.
