THE 1957 Dartmouth Alumni Fund campaign is off to a strong start in its effort to top the largest goal ever to challenge the annual giving generosity of the College's alumni, parents and friends - $865,000.

Figures through April 15 show the Fund ahead of the 1956 campaign pace in contributors but lagging slightly in dollars, with 3,996 alumni, parents and friends contributing $242,440. The comparative figures for the same date in 1956 were 3,979 contributors and $247,961.

The Dartmouth Parents Campaign for the Alumni Fund is also doing well in its campaign for $60,000. The April 15 figures of 256 gifts totaling $16,006 represented increases of 107 in contributors and $2,906 in dollars.

The second Alumni Fund Committee mailing piece, a special report prepared by Provost Donald H. Morrison on the problems being met by Dartmouth on the faculty front, was mailed to all alumni non-contributors in late April.

Fund Chairman William G. Morton '28 termed the results to mid-April "highly pleasing," and said he was confident that "Dartmouth alumni would surpass the $865,000 goal - largest in Fund history - by the June 30 deadline."
