THE SPACIOUS SOCIAL LOUNGE overlooking the campus from the second floor of Hopkins Center has already acquired the popular name "Top of the Hop." As the artist's rendering in color shows, it will command a sweeping view of the beauty and activity of the central green in all seasons. A large porch, extending across the front of the building, above the main entrance, will provide a choice vantage point for watching the unceasing flow of Dartmouth life, and will duplicate, on a larger scale, the role of "observation post" that the Hanover Inn porch has had for so many years. The Top of the Hop will be used for dances, informal recitals, and other social events, as well as for a general College lounge and gathering place. With its spaciousness, brightness and great expanse of glass across the front, it will strikingly have, in the words of Ann Hopkins Potter, "an open-arms aspect" and speak its warm welcome to all members of the Dartmouth family.
