DARTMOUTH'S Capital Gifts Campaign continues to make steady progress. Additional pledges and gifts during the past month have brought the total to $6,200,000, or more than a third of the goal of $17,000,000. Some 2,400 alumni, parents and friends have contributed to date. They represent only 6% of the total number of alumni, parents and friends of Dartmouth who will be asked to participate before the campaign ends in June 1959.
The special gifts phase of the capital campaign has been in full swing this spring, with a score of additional areas opened this past month. Some areas that cannot be covered by June 30 will be carried over into next fall, it has been decided by the campaign leaders, headed by National Chairman Charles J. Zimmerman '23. Activity among foundations and corporations has also been stepped up recently, and prospects, according to Mr. Zimmerman, are very encouraging.
The great majority of Dartmouth men will be approached in the general campaign beginning next fall. Meanwhile they are contributing to the 1958 Alumni Fund, which last month reported a near record-breaking participation. Counting those alumni who have made gifts to the capital gifts campaign, the participation figure is already over 50% and is climbing steadily. Last year Dartmouth men set a new alumni participation record among all major colleges and universities of 71.3%.
