A small, paper-bound volume, Thirty Dartmouth Poems, has been published in Hanover by Richard Eberhart '26, Dartmouth's poet in residence, who selected the student poems included in the volume. Funds for its publication were provided by the Charles Butcher Fund.
The poems in this attractive collection, recalling earlier years when small volumes of Dartmouth poetry appeared from time to time, have been written by Richard Baldwin '60, DeWitt Beall '62, Howell Chickering '59, Robert Coltman '59, Lou Gerber '59, David Greenstein '60, George Hand '60, Karl Holtzschue *59, Alec Lampee '60, Joseph Nadeau '59, John Nash '60, Robert Perron '59, Lloyd Henry Relin '59, Fred Scribner '59, Cary Stiff '59, and Art Wolff '59.
In a short foreword, Professor Eberhart writes: "Poetry is like the mystery of the world. It comes from secret wells; it is a fresh draft from heaven, warmed in earth. ... Without it we lack something central; with it we are rich, in opulent throes. We understand what it is to live, to suffer, to hope."
Thirty Dartmouth Poems is priced at $1.50 and may be obtained at the Dartmouth Bookstore, Hanover, N. H.
