The Dartmouth Club of Western Washington combined their annual dinner meeting with the kickoff of the Capital Gifts Campaign last April 30. (Things always seem a little slow getting started out here on the coast.) Over ninety friends of the College gathered to hear Vice President John Meek at the Rainier Club, Seattle.

Later in the evening the annual selection of officers was made. Slade Gorton '49 was elected President, Kenneth A. Mac Donald '39 Vice President, James W. Jones III '50 Secretary, John McFalls '48 Treasurer, and Robert DeBruyn '55 Corresponding Secretary. The retention of Jim Jones in the Secretary's position was in keeping with local tradition that there is only one condition under which a bachelor can be released from the position. Bill Holman '40 held the position previously for eight terms before leaving the bachelor ranks and qualifying for retirement.

Those engaged in recruiting in Washington state wonder if any other Dartmouth alumni group had a batting average to match the .719 of this area for the Class of 1963 with 23 acceptances out of 32 applications.

The club held its annual picnic at the Diamond S Ranch of Judge James Hodson '29, the third Sunday in August. The festivities were highlighted by an egg-throwing contest, won by Mr. and Mrs. George Nickum '31 who were at the 100-foot mark before Betty Nickum brought the event to a close with a crushing two-handed catch. Overall the picnic was highly successful with over a hundred alumni and friends checking in despite a slight dew which settled over the grounds from time to time.

Those alumni who haven't been reached by the mails in the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett area should be sure to get in touch with Jim Jones 'SO at the above address for inclusion in the planned fall activities of the club. In addition any men of the College on their way through or stopping in the area can find at least one pleasant voice in the wilderness by also getting in touch with Jones.
