IN the emergency created by the sudden death of Provost Donald H. Morrison, President Dickey has appointed Richard W. Morin '24, the College Librarian, to be Special Assistant to the President to assist with the affairs of the office of the Provost. During Mr. Morin's temporary leave from the library, Miss Ellen F. Adams, associate librarian, will be Acting Librarian of the College.
Mr. Morin earlier served as administrative assistant to President Dickey, coming to Dartmouth in 1948 as Executive Officer of the College after a career in law, the U. S. Foreign Service, and the State Department. He was named Librarian in 1950.
After graduating from Dartmouth, Mr. Morin studied at Oxford University, the Ecole de Sciences Politiques in Paris, and the Harvard Law School. He was U. S. vice-consul in Paris from 1929 to 1933 and then for two years served with the State Department. After practicing law in Albert Lea, Minn., he returned to the State Department in 1942 to help establish the Offices of Public Information and Public Affairs. He was the first chief of the Division of Public Liaison and was deputy director of the Office of Public Affairs.
President Dickey also announced last month that Prof. Thaddeus Seymour will be Acting Dean of Freshmen for the spring term, while Dean Albert I. Dickerson '30 is on leave traveling in Europe. Professor Seymour will become Dean of the College on August 1, succeeding Dean Joseph L. McDonald who retires.
