By Griffifth Taylor, Dorothy J. Seiveright, andTrevor Lloyd. Toronto: Ginn and Company, 1958.346 pp. $3.76.

Canadian school children from the ages of ten to fourteen should find this regional approach to a study of the economic geography of Europe and Asia most interesting and enlightening. The authors clearly set forth the vital factors of natural environment in these lands and show how they affect the everyday lives and culture of the people. Their problems of economic, social, and political adjustment vividly come to life as they are related to the interests and activities of the inhabitants of Canada and other members of the Commonwealth.

Appeal to the curiosity of youngsters is prevalent throughout the text. The young mind is constantly being challenged with things to do, things to make, and things merely to talk about. Interesting topics for further research and investigation are listed, and books for further reading are suggested.

Maps are skillfully used in developing the concept of our present-day monospheric world. Topographic continuity becomes significant with the lesser accent on visual restriction of political boundary. Excellent charts, graphs, and diagrams supplement the material presented, and much superb photography lends reality and enchantment to the information at hand.

The language of geography is expertly handled on a level comprehensible to the age group for which it is intended. To aid the young reader a pronouncing word list is included at the back of the book. Any difficult words and phrases pertinent to particular sections are clearly defined as used.

With an eye toward future world citizenship the authors discuss the political problems being faced in Europe and Asia and pursue the desire and the necessity on the part of Canadian children "to understand and sympathize with the hopes, fears, and needs of people everywhere" if we are to have peace.
