DARTMOUTH'S surge of new construction was concentrated this summer on the four major projects pictured here: Hopkins Center, the Medical Science Building, three new dormitories, and the Math-Psychology Unit. Many other plant changes were undertaken, however. The Admissions Office moved to the former Graduate Club on Sanborn Lane and its Parkhurst quarters were remodeled into offices for the Treasurer and other business officers. Middle Mass, completely remodeled inside and fireproofed, was finished for fall occupancy. Baker Library's administrative offices were remodeled to obtain more space, and outdoor space was retrieved when the last of the Wigwam Circle units were torn down.
The new Medical Science Building (lower right), located near the Hitchcock Hospital (seen in the background), has kept two months ahead of its building schedule. The administrative offices were occupied last month and it is expected that all departments will be able to move in by January 1.
The south end of Hopkins Center began to acquire brick walls and erection of the full steel framework gave Hanover its first real idea of how huge the Center is going to be.
Three new V-shaped dorms to house 327 men are rising on the former Wigwam Circle land near Tuck (top left) and Thayer Schools.
Steelwork progressed this summer on the Math-Psychology Unit being constructed on Elm Street, just north of the Baker Library.
