THE Third Annual Dartmouth Festival of Music will be held in Hanover from Friday, April 29, to Sunday, May 1. The general topic for this year's festival is "The Lyric Spirit in Music" and the program, open to alumni and friends of the College as well as to students and faculty, is as follows:

FRIDAY, APRIL 29

10:00 a.m. Talk by Percy Grainger on "The Influence of Folksong on Art Music," with two-piano examples by Mr. Grainger and Prof. James A. Sykes of Dartmouth, festival chairman.

3:30p.m. Band Concert, the Dartmouth College Band, Prof. Donald W. Wendlandt, conductor. Percy Grainger will conduct his own composition. Admission $1.00.

5:00 p.m. Reception to meet guest participants.

8:30 p.m. Chamber Music Concert by Phoenix String Quartet; Bethany Beardslee, soprano; Wind Quintet and soloists. Program of 19th and 20th century works by Spohr, Dallapiccola, Milhaud, Bartok, Kurka, Winham and others. Admission $1.00.

SATURDAY, APRIL 30

2:00 p.m. Lecture Seminar. Talk on electronic music by Milton Babbitt.

3:13 p.m. Orchestra Concert, Mario di Bonaventura, conductor. Program of works by Handel, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Schumann, with Anthony di Bonaventura as piano soloist. Admission 1.00.

6:30 p.m. Festival Banquet at Hanover Inn By reservation, $3.50.

8:30 p.m. Orchestra Concert, Mario di Bonaventura, conductor. Program of works by Beethoven, Mozart, Stravinsky and others, with Tossy Spivakovsky as violin soloist. Admission $1.00.

SUNDAY, MAY 1

2:30 p.m. Chorus and Orchestra Concert. Program: Beethoven's Choral Fantasy for Piano,Chorus and Orchestra, with the Mount Holyoke College Choir, the Dartmouth Glee Club, and Anthony di Bonaventura, pianist, conducted by Mario di Bonaventura; and By ron's Manfred with incidental music by Schumann, a dramatic reading with the Handel Society Chorus and soloists, conducted by Professor Sykes. Admission $1.00.

A series ticket admitting to all five concerts may be obtained for $3.00. Tickets for the series or individual concerts at S1.00 each and for the banquet at $3.50 each may be obtained in advance by sending a check to Dartmouth Festival of Music, 104 Bartlett Hall, Hanover,. N.H. A list of room and meal accommodations will be furnished upon request.
