With respect to the controversy concerning admission of women to Dartmouth, it impresses me that there is as much sense in limiting the College to men as in limiting it to Indians.

"Unfortunate Reaction"
To THE EDITOR
I question the value to the College of the publication in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE of the special reports on higher education. Because they do not pertain directly to specific situations at Dartmouth it is my opinion that they lack interest for our group of readers.
That the feature appears in 340 magazines with a combined circulation of nearly 3,000,000 copies is not a statistic of any consequence as regards the contents. It fosters a feeling that the feature is just another canned article to be used as a space filler. I realize that that may not be so, but it's an unfortunate reaction.
The writing lacks distinction and is dull reading. Chatty in a contemporary manner and often superficial, the articles leave me with the impression that they are second hand, probably having been adapted from material furnished by the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and put together in the Editorial Projects for Education, Inc., office without welfare thought or appraisal by members of a staff who are relatively inexperienced and not experts in the subject.
If the material involves matters that have special application to Dartmouth and are of immediate concern, let's have the Magazine staff write its own articles about those problems, with authoritative Administration comment if needed.

Par'me for pointing, but on page 25 of your May issue, the elbow-leaner inspecting the biography of Fred Zinneman is Leland Hayward, which leads to the assumption that the gentleman at the top left of the page must be Fred Zinneman. Sidney Lumet was an actor in Dead End, 1935; and earlier.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A considerable number of May copies were printed before this mistake was caught. Mr. Hewitt, a noted Broadway actor, was not fooled.
