THE campus this summer will once again be the scene of conferences for business executives as well as an institute for forty Russian-language teachers. The conferences are organized into formal courses with regular faculty lectures and small seminar sessions.
Basil Milovsoroff, Assistant Professor of Russian Civilization, is director of the institute. Its aim is to increase the competence of the secondary-school teacher in the Russian language and to introduce a new language-teaching method.
The Dartmouth program is one of 35 on-campus language programs supported by the National Defense Education Act and one of two offering Russian. The other is at Northwestern University. The forty teachers were selected from 145 candidates throughout the country. The institute will last seven weeks starting July 1.
The staff of the institute, according to Professor Milovsoroff, was selected to carry on a program integrating language, methods, culture and area. Included on the staff are: Oleg A. Maslenikov, associate professor, University of California; Mrs. Marie Morosova, Dartmouth; Vadim Liapunov, Harvard; Marina Prokhoroff, Yale; and Paul Olson, assistant professor, Dartmouth.
A program in liberal arts for business executives will start on June 27. The largest segment of those attending will be executives of the American Telephone and Telegraph Co. The program is under the general direction of Prof. Arthur E. Jensen, Dean of the Faculty.
A Management Development Conference for Savings Bankers will be held in two parts, each three weeks in length. Prof. Herbert W. Hill is in charge of the conference. The first part will open on July 2 and the second on July 31.
Other educational programs in Hanover this summer include the Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Tuck School, July 31-August 13, and the Vermont and New Hampshire School of Banking, September 12-15.
