In recognition of a distinguished legal career and devoted service to the College, a Dartmouth Alumni Award from the Alumni Council was presented to John H. Watson Jr. 'O4 (left) at the Council's January meeting in Cleveland. C. F. McGoughran '2O, shown making the award, read the following citation:

Native of Vermont, you have deeprooted interests in two major regions of our nation. Most of your youth was spent in the Upper Connecticut Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont. You prepared for college up the river from Hanover at St. Johnsbury Academy, and later graduated with Phi Beta Kappa rank in Dartmouth's Class of 1904. After earning an LL.B. from Harvard Law you left New England for your long-time home in Cleveland, Ohio.

You have served the legal profession of this city with distinction. Since 1922 you have been a partner with the firm of M. B. & H. H. Johnson. In 1958 the Cleveland Bar Association honored you for fifty years of legal practice and you were named one of the dozen outstanding lawyers of this city. However, your long years in Cleveland have not been dedicated to law alone. You have served as president of the Corrigan, McKinney Steel Company and a director of several other companies. Your name appears on the rolls of no less than ten civic and legal associations. From 1918 to 1920 you directed the activities of the Dartmouth Club of Northern Ohio and you are a charter member of the Dartmouth Club of Cleveland.

It is with great pride and appreciation that we honor you with the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
