With a fairly good turnout the Mexico City Club held a combination luncheon and business meeting on April 24 at the University Club. The main order of business was the election of new officers. The following slate was approved unanimously: Albert L.Schumacher '31, president; William Jenkins'54, secretary and Dick McDonough '52, treasurer. The first two succeed John H.Daniell '24 and Luis Zalamea '42, respectively. Dick McDonough had been acting secretary and is now confirmed in his post. Besides the "old regulars," two new faces were welcomed at the meeting: Rollin L.Kent '37 who is with Camiones Especiales S. A. (GM and International Harvester distributors) and John P. McGrath '49, who is assistant representative of the Bank of America.
Inasmuch as I dislike closing this with a personal note, I wish to add that I am returning to my home country of Colombia early in May after thirteen and a half years with the United Nations. There I will go back into journalism and perhaps enter into public life. An eye-opener visit to Cuba in January prompted my decision. Because if we do not carry out sweeping social reforms in Colombia and other Latin American countries that will benefit our peoples directly, there will be new Castros and new Cubas. Enough said. I'll dwell upon the subject during Hanover Holiday in June. ... So, in closing, best of luck to the Dartmouth Club of Mexico and its new officers. Credit should also be given to Bob Hill '42 who, as US Ambassador to Mexico, gave the original impetus to our growing group. Adios, pues, amigos.
