WITH THE BIG GREEN TEAMS
June 1962

THIS month's column is shaded in black as we pause to pay tribute to a great coach and fine gentleman, Tommy Dent. On May 10, at the age of 67, Dartmouth's beloved Scotsman died at his home in Fairlee, Vt. For over three decades he had coached Dartmouth soccer and lacrosse teams, leaving behind him when he retired in June 1960 a record that will be hard to match. The men who became All-Americans under his mentorship alone have left their mark upon the College and the national scene. A fuller In Memoriam article appears in this issue.

Turning to the sports scene, we find that most of the teams are preparing for their final games. Each contest is important for as this is written all but one team appears headed for a break-even if not a winning season. In the column that follows we will therefore attempt to bring you up to date on the doings of the Green teams, spotlighting if we may a story of courage and determination in baseball; one of bad luck against a background of brilliance in track; and finally a look at a crew which has finally begun to jell.
