Charles E. Ranch '30 (1) received the accolade of Class Chairman of the Year at the annual gathering of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover last month. In presenting the award, Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, read the following citation:
The qualities of leadership which you reflect have helped to guide the Class of 1930 on a course which is always upward in alumni affairs. Your own words taken from the Class of 1930 2 5-Year Book best express your philosophy: "There is good magic in believing that you can succeed in a project or an undertaking, either as an individual or as a group." You for one believe that the Class of 1930 would find true greatness through its accomplishments.
As chairman of your class, you have provided leadership in the area of Alumni Fund, Bequests, Class Newsletters, fall reunions, and other activities. You are broadening the base of active workers by encouraging new men to work on class affairs.
You have led the class executive committee, calling a meeting of all members at least once a year. This in turn has made each officer more conscious of his individual task.
As an alumnus you have served your College in numerous ways as secretary of the Dartmouth Club of New Haven, as a member of the Board of Overseers of the Hanover Inn, and as a member of the Alumni Council.
It is only fitting, we feel, that a man who has put Dartmouth and his class at the forefront of things to do for so long should be honored for his leadership with the Class Chairman of the Year Award for 1963.
