JUNE 1963

Dr. Robert O. Blood '13M was recently honored in Concord, N. H., by the State and local YMCA. With a host of persons congratulating him upon his many accomplishments, the distinguished group of speakers presented him with numerous awards. Dr. Philip M. L. Forsberg, representing the New Hampshire Medical Society, presented him with a certificate of appreciation for 50 years of medical service to the people of New Hampshire. He was presented with a trophy by the Ayrshire Breeders' Association, in recognition of his outstanding herd of Ayrshire cattle, and the two national champion cows in this herd.

Lane Dwinell '28 of Lebanon, N. H., in his address to the 350 banquet guests gave an interesting resume of Dr. Blood's public life, highlighted by two terms as Governor of the state from 1941 to 1945, and five terms as delegate to the National Republican Convention. He predicted that Dr. Blood would be a candidate again for the next National Republican Convention.

Dr. Blood was also presented a certificate of appreciation by the New Hampshire Congregational Conference in recognition of his many years of lay service. The YMCA distinguished service plaque was presented to Dr. Blood, who has been a Concord Y member for 35 years, and is serving at present as a national vice-president of the National Council of the YMCA.

Dr. Blood holds an honorary A.M. degree from Dartmouth College, conferred upon him during his governorship of the state. He also holds an honorary degree from the University of New Hampshire. At present he is serving on the Board of Trustees of the new College of Advanced Sciences, Canaan, N. H. Dr. Blood's service to his country in the front lines of World War I as an Army doctor brought him the honor of the Distinguished Service Cross and the French Croix de Guerre.

Dr. Blood told the assembled well-wishers that he was continuing his 15-hour-a-day medical profession and was still active in many civic and charitable organizations. He confirmed Lane Dwinnell's prediction that he would be a candidate for another term as delegate to the next Republican National Convention.
