In festive mood, some 1200 persons packed the Statler Hilton ballroom on Wednesday evening, January 22, to celebrate the 100 th birthday of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston. The dinner took the form of a tribute to President-Emeritus Hopkins and President Dickey, both of whom received standing ovations when they were introduced by Toastmaster Lester R. President Dickey was one of the evening's speakers, but Mr. Hopkins, now in his 87th year, confined his participation to the graceful acceptance of a pair of bookends inscribed for the occasion. President Dickey received a similar gift.
Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller '30 of New York, a Dartmouth Trustee in both the Hopkins and Dickey administrations, was the honored guest speaker. Football captain Scott Creelman '64 spoke for the undergraduates, and Alumni Council president N. In another program highlight, Mr. Godwin turned over to President Dickey a check for $12,000 that raised the Boston Alumni Association scholarship fund to more than $42,000.
