In New London, N. H., of Colby Junior College fame, Don Sieburg and his wife Doris have purchased the former College Inn and will operate it as the Sun-Dart Motor Lodge. The Sieburgs came to New London in 1949, where Don became a commercial photographer. The business developed into the wholesaling of Kodachrome postcards; sales have totaled more than 55 million. The Sieburgs have four children: twin daughters Judith, now Mrs. Willard Thompson, Jaqueline, now Mrs. George Bussell; Donald Jr., now a student at the University of New Hampshire, and a son, Kim.
Your secretary has just returned from a trip to Mexico to find that the deadline for MAGAZINE copy has slipped by and his file of class notes material is empty. In Mexico we spent some time hacking at thorny brush with a machete and getting used to a diet of tortillas and black beans, but had a welcome introduction to another side of Mexican life thanks to the courtesy of RoilyKent and Mack Burke.
Roily invited us out to his house in a suburb of Mexico City, and we spent a thoroughly delightful Sunday with a swim and dinner at his club with Roily, his charming wife Belem, and their children, Roily Jr. and Joan, followed by a tour of part of the city and the university. Rolly's goal at the moment seems to be to see that there is a Chevrolet truck in every garage in Mexico. He confirmed a few judgments that we had arrived at independently, such as that Mexican women are among the most beautiful in the world.
The next day we had lunch at the University Club overlooking the magnificent Paseo de la Reforma with Roily and Mack Burke. Mack is general manager of Time-Life in Latin America. His responsibilities are concerned with circulation and advertising, not editorial matters. He is living in Mexico City with his wife, son, and a daughter about to enter college. What did we talk about mostly? Cuba? The population explosion? Latin-American economics? Not at all; we found ourselves having recourse to the great common denominator: education. Our youngsters, their problems, their college hopes, what are the good schools, the uncertainties of the draft, college board exams.
