At the annual dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston on February 2, Donald F. Sawyer '21 of Boston was honored with the Dartmouth Alumni Award for distinction in his career and in his service to the College. In making the presentation Alumni Council President James D. Landauer '23 read this citation:
You started a long and successful business career as a salesman traveling the country as far west as St. Louis, then returning to Boston and other cities in New England in the investment and trust departments of banks, and in 1937 with Kidder, Feabody and Company. You became manager of their Back Bay Office in Boston in 1944 and continue now as a consultant and special representative of the firm.
We give you tonight the highest honor that can be awarded by the Dartmouth Alumni Council because of your lifelong service to the College. For many years you served as Head Class Agent for the Alumni Fund for your Class of 1921, which achieved outstanding records. You became a member and Vice President of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, and in 1959 and 1960 served as chairman of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund. Your leadership of this great annual campaign, which is outstanding among all colleges of the country, came at a difficult time of rebuilding the Alumni Fund following the Capital Gifts drive.
In addition to Dartmouth affairs you have served every community in which you have lived in civic responsibilities that have added lustre to your distinguished service to this College in whose name we meet tonight.
The Alumni Council is delighted to honor you, Don Sawyer, with its Dartmouth Alumni Award.
