Jack Sanborn's daughter, Mary Abt. reports the death of her sister Gertrude December 23, age 57. Until World War II Gertrude did private nursing. Then she began training nurses' aides for the American Red Cross. From 1945-63 she was in the Grace (now Yale) New Haven Hospital and head nurse in Central Supply service until her final illness. Her numerous friends will miss her.

Cards from Charlie and Mary Adams's children, as always, Elizabeth West of Brookline, Mass., and Glendora of Asheville, N. C., widow of Herbert Adams. Ned Baldwin's son Fred and wife Milly wrote from St. Johnsbury, as did Sam Burns's daughter, Barbara Stewart from Sharon, Mass., reporting her first visit from new grandson Patrick, son of young Sam; also reports her own sister Marjorie Cline has built a new home in the Bronx.

The three younger granddaughters of Louis P. Benezet cheer for sister Laura finishing first term at Smith. Dad, Louis T., cheers too.

K. Beal anticipates a Round-Up in Miami soon with two other visiting cronies, HawleyChase and Rodney Sanborn. Of course the trio are long-time pals in New Hampshire. Montie and Martha Fuller's son Melville, who lost Pauline last year, sees daughter Jean weekly, home from University of Massachusetts, wants an A.M. in education in 1967. Daughter Nancy's husband teaches in the University of Wisconsin. "All well and busy" says Melville, "a good cure for almost anything." So too for Sally Glass, remembering how happy she was to be with her parents, Bill and Carrie Hutchinson during their last days.

Ralph Hawkes's Blanche spent Christmas with Edward's family in Mattawamkeag. Paul Osgood cautions the secretary against falling coconuts. Thanks, Paul, anyway I want to stay around to congratulate you on February 26. Messages not only from Walter Eastman's Florence, but also from daughter Caroline Palmer and grandson Allen Eastman, Amherst '65.

Wesley Gordon's daughter Barbara Trowbridge reports her own daughter Pamela married and gone to Germany. Barbara herself and Phil have been transferred from Wellesley Hills, Mass., to Hohenwald, Tenn., for his health. But Peddy Miller's daughter Petra Lopes is still in Germany. Petra's sister Buzzie and husband and family spent Christmas in Nassau. Theobald (Tim) Lynch was remembered by a card sent by longtime Boston school assistant Marie Brinton, also his next-door neighbor in Cotuit on Cape Cod. Joe Gannon, alert newspaperman as always, sent Steve Snider's UPI article on Bob Blackman's staying at Dartmouth. "Never a question on money," says Bob, "The job is just too exciting because of the unique spirit there."

Albert Greenwood's son Jack with Peggy has been transferred to Pittsburgh, but they stayed East in their Connecticut cottage 'til Thanksgiving to see brother Jim's Jim Jr. married. Eddie Skinner's Sadie "liked the Christmas book of stories" and reports GusHeywood's Muriel leaves January 18 for three weeks in Florida. In spite of lowgrade health Joe Hobbs answered friend Hilda Fife's call of "Carpe diem" by addressing 170 holiday cards for her. "A true Carpe diem." says Hilda.

Herbert Lyster's son Leland retired from mining work with Mather Mining Co. in Biwabik, Minn., on New Year's. If his mother June is able to leave Vermont he will take her with him to Florida.

Fod Martin and Herb Rogers have been taking it easy since a bout with ill health but on the mend now. Happy and healthy New Year to them and all the rest of you! See you next month.
