What's going on with the Class of 1962? It's getting hard to tell. Gleanings from the newspapers are negligible. Letter-writing is at a minimum. Let's hope you're all spending your time getting ready for the Reunion this June. If so, you're forgiven. In the meantime, how about a respite from reading my condensed versions of other people's letters? Let's quote the original sources.
Mrs. Marty Quadland writes: A new addition: A daughter, Kara Elizabeth. Born September 15, 1965. Growing rapidly and already looking forward to having a date at the Big Green someday although I don't think her father will allow it unless he can go along. Marty should know that all those stories about the Dartmouth Indians are not true!
"Marty and I are both looking forward to his graduation in June from Tufts Dental School and then we will most likely spend two years with Uncle Sam. . . . We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion in June."
Mike Howard wasted no space on his Christmas card: "Using Christmas cards to tell what has happened since June 1962 is a bad act, I think, but I don't seem to have made much progress through other media.
"I was' in the Navy until last July and was supply officer of a Destroyer for first tour and at the Pentagon for the second. Good duty and no regrets. After release I headed for a six-week drive through Mexico with two others and had an outstanding time dodging burros and sampling tequila.
"After that trip I came to San Diego, where I have relatives, and now plan to begin Business School at Cal Berkeley in the spring. Sometimes I think I'd chuck it all temporarily for a chance to sail a boat around for awhile. Dreams of youth, no doubt."
From Al Greenbaum: "The last time I saw my name in print it was reported from some unknown quantity. To this day I don't know who reported it but the 'rumor' was fact.
"My wife, Sharon, and I are enjoying our BVi-month-old daughter Lisa. For the hell of it we concocted a picture. We had Lisa sit on the bed with my green and white wool beanie on (which I still wear every day). We then wrapped her in Sharon's Dartmouth scarf. What a sight!!
"Since I last spoke or wrote I have moved into my own home in Yorktown. ... I am on a new job - teaching here in Yorktown - 5th grade, instead of the sixth in Tarry-town. My kids in school were working with electric circuits. They 'taught me' how to make a doorbell and a burglar alarm. P.S. I spent Christmas vacation perfecting my own at home. See you at Reunion." (I'm sure Al Rapoport would be interested in that picture for the Newsletter. - PW)
A November letter from Kent Graham: "Since my Navy hitch is about completed and a new life, so-to-speak, is about to be- gin, I thought I'd write you and fill you in on the Navy ups and downs.
"After graduation I went to Naval OCS in Newport in August '62, and reported aboard the "USS T. J. Gary" (DER-326) in December as a green (new and seasick) ensign. I served aboard the Gary for 2½ years - mostly as Operations Officer. Our primary mission was surveillance of Cuban airspace. In 2½ years we spent over 220 days on picket station. This past September I was transferred to the Admiral's staff here in Newport, pending discharge December 1.
"Though I haven't traveled as much as I'd like to, I have hit every port on the east coast and the Caribbean. Also had the pleasure of taking the first destroyer ever to tie up at the Naval Academy Pier at Annapolis, Md.
"Here in Newport I bump into ButchJaeger all the time. Kent Hutchinson was here about a month ago. He's with VF-10Z Squadron aboard the "USS America." See John Swanson quite a bit. He's batching it in NYC, working for Eastern Air Lines. Also saw Bob Bannerman in Virginia while visiting Annapolis. Have received letters from several other '62's. All comments indicate a strong interest in reunion next June. Hope that's the general gist of the letters you've received too! [It is!]
"On December 1 my wife Beverly (Skidmore '63) and I will be moving to the Philadelphia area: 1317 Michael Rd., Meadow-brook, Pa., to be exact. I'll be working with the First Pennsylvania Banking and Trust Co. as a trainee in their Commercial and Branch Banking Program."
We also received an announcement from out Ann Arbor way notifying us that Judyand Bill Marx are the parents of a baby boy, William Jr., who arrived December 2, 1965. Bill is in his final year at U of Michigan Law School.
Hope I haven't embarrassed anyone by printing these letters. Without them we would have had about a five-line column this month. So how about a little more news from some of you.
