With the final figures yet to be determined, the College Chest Fund has already achieved one of its best performances in recent years. The contributions to date of $9,120, almost $l,OOO more than collected last year, were gained by a team of 130 student solicitors under the direction of S. Michael Nadel '66 of New York City, treasurer of the sponsoring Undergraduate Council. Some 90 percent of the 2238 students who figure in the most recent report contributed to the fund.
Dean of the Tucker Foundation Richard P. Unsworth termed the initial report of $9,120 "a testimonial to the improved spirit of the Chest Fund Committee and an improved sense of response and responsibility on the part of the student body."
The charities to benefit from the student and community support of the Chest Fund include an orphanage in Korea, the American Indian Fund, Dartmouth Project Asia, a scholarship program for Negro students, an agency working with narcotics addiction in New York, the DCU's social service program, an agency for the blind, World University Service, and Spaulding Youth Center in Tilton, N. H.
