The 17 th annual Freshman Fathers Weekend, February 18-20, attracted 406 fathers to the campus to see for themselves what Dartmouth life is all about. The dads went to classes, met with their sons' faculty advisers, ate in Thayer, slept in their sons' dormitory rooms (in most cases), and attended meetings featuring top College officials.
The first of the large meetings featured talks by Class of 1969 President Richard L. Buck of Beverly Hills, Calif., Dean of Freshmen Albert I. Dickerson '30, President Dickey, and H. Rex Lee, a '69 father and the Governor of American Samoa. Prior to a full offering of freshman and varsity athletic events on Saturday afternoon, a "Dads-only" panel discussion gave the visiting parents opportunities to hear and question Dean of the Tucker Foundation Richard P. Unsworth, Dean of the College Thaddeus Seymour, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Leonard M. Rieser '44, and Palaeopitus Chairman Herbert N. Brown '66.
On Saturday evening, in addition to a varsity hockey contest with Brown, the freshman fathers were treated to a talk by Eugene H. Falk, Edward Tuck Professor of the French Language and Literature, selections by the Freshman Glee Club, and receptions in their sons' dormitories.
