Dr. David Seegal '21 Honored at Brandeis
JANUARY 1967

In its new recorded program of "Living Biographies" Brandeis University is honoring Dr. David Seegal '21 and five other personages well known on both sides of the Atlantic. They are David Ben-Gurion and Pierre Mendes-France, former premiers of Israel and France; U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations Arthur J. Goldberg; Dr. Grete L. Bibring, who collaborated in Vienna with Dr. Sigmund Freud; and Lewis S. Rosenstiel, chairman of the board of Schenley Industries, who helped to underwrite research leading to the discovery of penicillin.

At Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons Dr. Seegal applied advanced and original teaching techniques in internal medicine to become an outstanding instructor. An authority on epidemic and chronic diseases, he is author of many learned articles, and his study of internships and residency programs resulted in many effective changes in hospital administration. In 1948 he received both the Army and Navy Certificates of Merit.

With video tape interspersed with footage of historical events bearing on careers and work, Abram L. Sacher, President of Brandeis, hopes to add a new dimension to oral-his-tory projects undertaken by universities, presidential libraries, corporations, and historical societies. The patron of "Living Biographies" is Samuel C. Dretzin of New York, automo- tive industrialist.
