Dartmouth's 53rd annual Alumni Fund campaign realized $2,101,560 this year, easily exceeding its $2-million goal and shattering records galore.
The chairman of the 1967 drive, Ralph Lazarus '35, announced the results and reported: "This was the first campaign to exceed $2-million and topped the best previous year, 1966, by $163,770."
He also reported the following highlights of this year's campaign:
A record 23,059 alumni, parents, and friends of the College contributed to the Fund. Participation by living Dartmouth alumni was 67%, the best record this year by any major college or university.
The average gift was $91.14, up from $85 last year.
The Class of 1942, observing the 25th anniversary of its graduation, set anall-time high of $91,699 in contributions.
Thirty-one classes had 100 percent participation and two-thirds of the classes (40 out of 60) reached or exceeded their dollar goals.
The Dartmouth Parents Fund received a record $78,378 from 1,566 parent donors under the chairmanship of H. Tenison Deane.
Mr. Lazarus added: "I'm delighted - but not really surprised — by the results. The Alumni Fund is a strong Dartmouth tradition and more than 4,000 Dartmouth men worked long and hard as class agents this spring tomake the record achievement possible. Their efforts have contributed materially to the strength of Dartmouth as it approaches its Bicentennial in1969-70."
A detailed report on the 1967 Alumni Fund results will be published as a special insert in the next month's issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
