George S. Hammond, the Arthur Amos Noyes Professor of Chemistry at California Institute of Technology, will deliver the first annual Dreyfus Lecture in Chemistry on May 11. This lecture series has been established with a grant of funds from The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation of New York.
Professor Hammond's lecture is titled "Pitfalls for Excited States," which could be interpreted as political science, and will be given in Wilder Hall, the physics building. However, Professor Hammond will have much to do in Steele Hall too, for he will also participate in informal seminars with chemistry faculty and students and consult with the department faculty on curriculum developments.
