The 1966 Joshua A. Davis Trophy for the most improvement in a single campaign was awarded in March to Head Class Agent Warren G. .Kreter '42 (r) and to his Class by Alumni Fund Chairman Ralph Lazarus '35. In presenting the award at the New York dinner, March 29, Lazarus read the following citation:
The twenty-fifth reunion year traditionally marks a significant milestone in the alumni life of a Dartmouth class and is usually celebrated by a major class gift to the College. Somehow, the Class of 1942 got out of phase last year and marked their twenty-fourth year by contributing $77,569 to the Alumni Fund. This remarkable achievement represented the largest dollar increase ever in a single campaign, and established a new all-time record contribution by a class to the Fund, earning 1942 the Davis Cup. Credit for this feat is shared by Head Agent Warren Kreter and his "gang" and by Class Giving Chairman Bob Strasenburgh and his effective committee. However, 1942 men realize that it was a culmination of the dedicated leadership, persevering organization and imaginative innovation which "Krete" Kreter has brought to the Fund during the past seven years as Head Agent. These abilities were previously recognized in 1962 when he was awarded the Harvey P. Hood Trophy, and now the Alumni Fund Committee proudly awards the Joshua P. Davis Trophy signifying the most improvement in a single campaign to him and his great Class of 1942. All we can add is that we wonder, if the twenty-fourth year was that good, what will the twenty-fifth be like?
