H. M. McKay '21 Honored As Treasurer of the Year
JUNE 1967

The honor of being Class Treasurer of the Year was conferred on Hugh M. McKay'21 as class officers gathered in Hanover, May 13. In presenting the award Editor Charles E. Widmayer '30 of the Alumni Magazine paid him tribute as follows:

You have been Treasurer of the Class of 1921 for six years, and although your financial management during that entire period has been you have made a particularly strong showing for 1966-67. The percentage of the entire class receiving the Alumni Magazine has risen to 92%, and you have gone against the general trend of fewer dues collections this year by getting 78.2% of all your classmates to pay dues, an increase of 6% over last year.

You have built up a sizable accumulated class surplus, plus a reserve of nearly $1000 for Memorial Books, and preparations for 1921's reunion in June have been aided by funds you have been able to advance to the reunion treasurer. All in all, your class has exemplary financial strength.

Being a good manager comes naturally to you. Looking at the roster of companies that benefited from your executive ability from 1926 until your retirement in 1964 — Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Electric Boat Company, House of Herbs, and Refined Syrups & Sugars, Inc., of which you were President - one can say doubly that your career has been effervescent, electric, spicy, and sweet.

For the Class of 1921 and for Dartmouth, which claims three generations of McKays, your contributions have been just as notable. In appreciation of all you have done and in tribute especially to your accomplishments this year, we honor you as the Dartmouth Class Treasurer of the Year.
