A RECORD total of $2,148,548 was achieved by Dartmouth's 1968 Alumni Fund which closed June 30. This was $47,000 above the goal and came from 23,045 alumni, parents, and friends. Alumni participation was 66%, down slightly from the 1967 figure of 67%. The excellent results confirm, at least for this first year, the wisdom of the decision by the Trustees and Alumni Council to seek to sustain the annual Alumni Fund at the $2-million-plus level throughout the period of Dartmouth's Third Century Fund.
Included in the 1968 total was a record Parents Fund of $87,997 from 1,701 donors and some $223,000 of income from Class Memorial Funds and individual endowment funds Corporate matching gifts, credited to the Fund, also reached a new high of $148,000.
Many classes achieved records in the 1968 campaign. The Class of 1930, guided by Bud French, led all classes by raising $68,131; and three other classes - 1925, 1926, and 1942 - all topped the $60,000 level. The Class of 1943 observed its 25th reunion by contributing $51,212, with five other classes — 1927, 1928, 1929, 1931, and 1935 - also achieving totals of more than $50,000.
The traditional interclass Green Derby competition produced these 1968 winners: Group I — 1913, Bill Terry, Head Agent; Group II — 1918, Tom Bryant; Group III - 1925, Larry Leavitt; Group IV - 1935, Cramp Carrick; Group V - 1945, Moose Rowan; Group VI 1953, Jack Newton; Group VII — 1954, Bob Woodberry; and Group VIII - 1963, Bill Russell.
