To be very frank with you all, there is very little news this month. You will all have to do better, not just once but month after month.
Herbert L. Searles has introduced a new edition (Third) of Logic and Scientific Methods. As you all know, Bert is quite a writer. The Ronald Press Company evidently thinks so as this is the third edition of his work to be published. In brief, this volume includes an extensive section on symbolic logic which includes the construction and use of truth tables, the evaluation of truth-functional arguments, and quantification. You can get the volume for $6.50 if you want to have some fun!
Bob Scott was fortunate enough to be chosen to represent the Connecticut State Seniors in their match with the Bay State Seniors to determine the best golfers. Here is Bob's own description of what happened. "I was in the last foursome and who should I draw as my opponent but Chan Steiger from Longmeadow. We both hit some good shots as well as poor ones and broke even on our individual match. However, my partner won his match and we won our team match to put Connecticut over Bay State 10 to 8. It was naturally a lot of fun for two old 17'ers."
One day recently I received a telephone call from none other than Helen Birtwell. Shortly thereafter she arrived at the house and turned over to me a cigar box containing transparencies which, when projected on to a screen, showed pictures of classmates. She left them with me to distribute in any way that I think appropriate. It was very kind of Helen to turn over the transparencies and I hope to get some good from them.
Ralph and Ethel Sanborn called at about the same time. Helen was out but I entertained them as best I could and we had a good visit.
On Thursday of this week Bob and GailBoynton and Helen and I went over to New London to check with Mr. Perry to see that all arrangements for our fall party are in order. It seems that they are and nothing more is required of us. But we stayed on and had lunch there and then came home. It was a real satisfactory trip.
Two more deaths have occurred since the last issue. Lt. Charles A. Dixon died on March 26, 1968 and Samuel Saline on September 4, 1968. Obituaries will follow in another issue.
