The 1969 issue of the Journal of the Dartmouth Mountaineering Club, edited by Bruce Ferguson '71, will appear this month. Included in its contents is the recounting by Jim Janney '69 of his climb on Chopicalqui, in Peru:
"We are not Taoists," he writes, "but we have been unfair to the relatively accessible peak already by assaulting her with so many ropes and cameras.... Mostly Boyd and sometimes I daintily tip-toe, wiggle, crawl, and fiercely hack to adjust the once picturesque ridge into an ordered, yet snakelike, progression of footsteps. The sense of footstep becoming free space often bothers us as we inch across the Peruvian potpourri of snow souffle and ice shingles."
This is the first issue of the Journal since 1965. Other articles in it are "Mount Kennedy: North Ridge" by Philip D. L. Koch '70, "Ice Piton Under Load" by John D. Unger, and "The South Cascade Glacier Area" by R.C. Reynolds.
Copies can be ordered by sending one dollar to the DMC Journal, 23 Robinson Hall, Hanover, N. H. 03755.
