THE SIX-CENT STAMP commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Dartmouth College Case to be issued by the Post Office will go on sale in Hanover on September 22. First-day ceremonies for the issuance of the stamp will be held in conjunction with the Bicentennial Year celebration.
The Dartmouth stamp, to be printed in green ink, was designed by John R. Scotford Jr. '33 assistant director of the Hopkins Center. It was engraved at the Bureau of Engraving and Printins by Edward P. Archer, who did the vignette, and Kenneth C. Wiram, who did the lettering.
Alumni and others desiring first-day cancellations may send self-addressed envelopes, together with remittance to cover the cost of the stamps to be affixed, to the Postmaster, Hanover, N. H. 03755. A close-fitting enclosure of postal card thickness should be placed in each envelope to be cancelled and the flap either turned in or sealed. The outside envelope should be marked "First Day Covers 6 Dartmouth College Case Stamp." Orders for covers must not include requests for uncanceled stamps. Cover requests must be postmarked no later than September 22 1969. The Third Century Fund is planning a first-day mailing with the new stamp to the entire alumni body.
In addition, "Dartmouth First Day Stamps" (Box 432, Hanover, N. H. 03755) has been designated by the College as official agency for the handling of special philatelic items that will be available to alumni and collectors.
