OCTOBER 1970 EVERETT H. PARKER ’16, David J. Stephenson ’46

In mid June following a provocative letter from Colorado undergraduates and upon a suggestion from Alumni Councilor, Seymour Wheelock ’40, a special study seminar was called by our president, BobMontgomery ’56. Attendance was open to all local alumni, undergraduates, their families and friends of Dartmouth.

Pete Wells ’63, presided and turned the meeting over to Dr. Wheelock who acted as moderator. Tom Oxman ’71, Allen Rheem ’71, and Dave Stephenson ’72, were the undergraduate panelists. They explained the reasons for the stand taken by the College and student body in response to the recent events in Southeast Asia and on college campuses throughout the country.

An enlightening discussion followed with varying opinions expressed by many of the alumni. The range of views pretty well reflected a wide spectrum of opinion. When it was all over, and the smoke had cleared, many were heard to state that similar seminars should be held in the future. It seemed as if the dialogue had reestablished a line of communication between under- graduates and alumni which, as of late, had been somewhat deficient.
