On June 3, 25 alumni met with six students and a faculty representative to discuss recent developments in Hanover in connection with the student “strike.” Impetus for the meeting came from contacts made by David Bloom ’71 with club officers. Prof. George Young, Yale graduate who teaches Russian Literature, gave an excellent presentation of student and faculty involvement in campus activities. Students participating in the meeting were: Andrew Caffrey ’73, Angol Dominguez ’73, John Elias ’73, Gary Tomlinson ’73, David Bloom ’71, and John J. Dagainis ’72.

While no consensus developed from the meeting, most of the alumni present were impressed with the obvious sincerity of the visitors from Hanover, as well as the minimal interruption which the “strike” had on the educational function of the College. The discussion, chaired by President Daniel Goggin ’57, lasted almost two hours.

All present felt that a new dimension had been added to the fellowship of Dartmouth men in a period of national crisis.
