Dartmouth's rugby football "A" team took second place in the Ivy League tournament, defeating Columbia and Brown before losing to Princeton in the championship game.
John Short, the halfback who set a Dartmouth season rushing record last fall for the Indians' undefeated foot ball team, has signed a professional contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Dart mouth's All-Ivy quarterback, Jim Chasey, signed wih the Alouettes earlier this year and the Montreal team also may sign defensive tackle Barry Brink when the current tennis season is completed (at 240 pounds, he is one of the heftiest doubles players in college tennis).
Dave Hazelett from Burlington, Vt. and George Perry from Mexico, Me., have been elected co-captains of Dartmouth's 1971-72 ski team. Hazelett is an Alpine racer and Perry is an outstanding jumper.
Dan Gibson from Lyndonville, Vt., was presented the first Robert C. Gebhardt Memorial Award for sportsmanship, loyalty to skiing and to Dartmouth, and for achievement in academics and skiing. Gebhardt, a member of Dartmouth's NCAA championship ski team in 1958, won the NCAA slalom title that year. He was killed in 1968 in a motor boat accident in California.
A plaque, presented by his classmates, was scheduled for unveiling between games of the Harvard-Dartmouth doubleheader on May 1, officially naming Dartmouth's baseball field in honor of the late Robert A. (Red) Rolfe '31.
