The Westchester Dartmouth Club held its annual dinner meeting on September 6 at the Tarrytown Hilton. Approximately 115 people attended, including nearly 25 entering freshmen from the Class of '77 and many of their parents. The enjoyable event was in large measure a tribute to retiring President Peter Jaffe and the dinner chairman, Larry Krutek.

The guest speaker at the dinner was Dartmouth's own Seaver Peters, who gave an enjoyable and informative talk on athletics at Dartmouth. He stressed that the Dartmouth Athletic Program encompassed the entire spectrum of sports at all levels of competence and included a broad opportunity for participation by both the men and women. He also enumerated on the greatly expanded and expanding athletic facilities at the College. However, Mr. Peters strongl, emphasized that athletics at Dartmouth are not and would not become a "profession" and he stressed the potential dangers to intercollegiate athletics which Dartmouth and the rest of the Ivy League were trying to avoid. He further emphasized that the primary purpose of the multilevel athletic program was to better develop the all-around student and to encourage his development of interpersonal relationships with both the college faculty and fellow students.

The talk closed with talk of the effect of coeducation on the athletic program. There are now men's teams and women's teams in several sports. With respect to individual sports, women may try out for any team where there is only a men's team, but they may not compete on a coed level in team sports, such as football and hockey. This may be unfortunate - for both the team and the individual players. However, it would appear that there is still wrestling and boxing where the sexes can go after each other in public. Also, what about women's teams where there is no men's team? May the men try out for these and, if so, what uniforms will they wear?

Congratulations were extended at the dinner to Dick Ossen and Art Rabin for the superb job they did recruiting and interviewing for Dartmouth this past year. We were informed that Westchester County had 62 acceptances into this year's freshman class, of whom 41 elected to attend Dartmouth. The previous high in acceptances for the county had been 26. This represents an astounding increase of 58%, which will present a difficult hurdle to beat in future years.

Election of new officers and members of the board of governors for the coming year were held. The new officers are Allan Glick '60, president; Clem Malin '56, Alan Murray '55, Robert Field'43, vice presidents; Victor Rich '61, secretary; Frank Bruni '57, treasurer. The new members of the board of governors are William Cunningham'39, Sven Karlen, Jr. '65, Bruce Miller '67, ArthurRaybin '58, and John Richard Prior '68.

Al Glick, the incoming president, closed the meeting by announcing the Dartmouth Glee Club Concert to be held in Westchester on March 16, 1974 and sponsored by the Dartmouth Club of Westchester.

Latest in the series of "Outrageous Events" perpetrated from time to time by the San Fran-cisco Club was the "Dartmouth Alumni Association" event won by "My Pale Moon,"here congratulated by Club President Derek Knudsen '65 and wife Sharon (left).
