The 1973 Alumni Fund, which closed June 30, will end up with $3.1 million from 21,000-plus donors. On July 5 the total stood at $3,095 million, counting endowment income, from 20,650 donors, with additional pledge payments, matching gifts, and individual endowment credits to come.
The 1973 Fund handily met its $3-million goal and may exceed last year's total by more than $500,000. The donor count did not increase, however, and the overall percent of alumni participation will probably be down.
One principal reason for the 1973 Fund's success was the remarkable achievement of the 12 reunion classes which collectively raised $1.2 million or 38% of the total. The 50-year Class of 1923 was the first ever to reach $200,000, but just a few days later that record was surpassed by the 20-year Class of 1953 with $212,000. The 40-year Class of 1933 exceeded its goal with $160,000. Four other reunion classes that topped their goals were 1913 ($12,500), 1948 ($80,000), 1954 ($100,000) and 1963 ($30,000).
