Governor Michael Dukakis has reappointed Andrew H. Nighswander as a commissioner of the Massachusetts Rate Setting Commission which the governor credited with "saving Massachusetts consumers millions of dollars in unnecessary medical costs while ensuring continued quality medical care throughout the state." Andy has been a member of the commission since 1974. In addition to ruling on rate requests, he played a key role in drafting hospital cost-control legislation which was adopted in 1976 giving the commission powers to control hospital costs through comprehensive budget review. Andy was formerly associate commissioner of the Boston Department of Health and Hospitals. He also worked as a consultant to the Mt. Sinai Medical School in New York City and served three years as an assistant to the U.S. secretary of Health, Education and Welfare where he received the department's superior-service award. Andy and his wife Linda live in Lexington.

John Goyette's summer arts festival has mushroomed into one of the major growth industries of the North Country. Starting in 1973 as a two-week program of incidental entertainment for guests at the Waumbek Inn, in Jefferson, N.H., it is now an eight-week extravaganza playing to more than 35,000 music and dance lovers. Last summer's program opened with Dave Brubeck, closed out with Buddy Rich, and included symphony, ballet, folk, blues, traditional music, and sculpture. From an initial budget of $14,000, the festival has grown to a $250,000 operation and provided a real boost to the local economy.

Dr. L. William Katz was recently appointed vice president of Medicus Systems Corporation of Chicago, a company providing a full range of management and planning services to health-care institutions. Bill is now directing a team of professional consultants from the company's Elmsford, N.Y., office. Previously he was director of consulting for American Health Facilities, a division of the American Hospital Supply Corporation, and was associate professor of health care administration at George Washington University.

At the Yale game I saw a number of '60s including Arnie Sigler, Sam Bowlby, Roger Zissu,Dick Ossen, Al Summer, and Dave Hiley and son Ronald who is now a freshman at Dartmouth along with Max Eveleth's daughter.

I regret ending on a sorrowful note, but I recently received an announcement of the death on August 14 of Andrew J. Purdy. Andy was a professor of English at Hollins College, Va. Further details will appear in a later issue.
